I chose this movie out of stacks of movies…and my son smiled at me. What? A Jet Li movie? Are you kidding? I had a feeling about it. I just really wanted to watch it and I wanted my son to watch it with me.
It was beautiful! It was pretty special. And I think that ‘the word’ is that it might be Jet Li’s last film. It will have a cult following of sorts at some point I am sure and surely there are few martial arts people who wouldn’t appreciate the prominent messages of the film.
Fearless, known in Chinese as Huo Yuanjia (Chinese: 霍元甲; pinyin: Huò Yuánjiǎ) is a 2006 film directed by Ronny Yu and starring Jet Li. It is loosely based on the life of Huo Yuanjia, a legendary Chinese martial artist who challenged foreign fighters in highly publicised events, restoring pride and nationalism to China at a time when Western Imperialism was eroding the country. Jet Li stated in an interview that this film is his last martial arts epic, a point also made in the movie’s television promotions and other publicity.
