I invited my youngest daughter out to the Dixie Chicks concert the other night, but life has been so extremely busy since that I haven’t had a chance to write about it! In fact, she is overwhelmed with school and extra responsibilities as well right now, so it seems that everyone in the house is chasing their tails.
My daughter was coming from the north…I was traveling from the south, so we each got to the Saddledome in our own time. I picked up the ritual Coors-on-tap for both of us and settled myself in to the eleventh row. Beautiful seats! When my girl arrived, we lit up! The tired feelings swept away in the excitement.
The opening act, Bob Schneider, was wonderful, although his live $10.00 cd out of Austin, Texas is less than satisfactory…very poor quality! I wish that I had purchased one of his studio cds. He sang a tune called Batman and immediately I thought of my son, so picked one up. The crowd was pretty excited when he sang his version of, "Natural Woman". A great sense of humour! I made a point of shaking the percussionist’s hand and chatting a bit at the signing with Bob.
The Dixie Chicks were exceptional. What a fine group of musicians. They bring along no less than eight other musicians and the stage was alive with great ‘stuff’!
There were some powerful political statements made…but more importantly, thoughts about how to live your life. Song for the sake of nostalgia that I loved the most…Landslide. I’ve heard Stevie Nicks sing it live and now…this version. Nice!
Lyrics I loved most…
